Powell, Upshaw, and Wartenburg Added to Camp Clinician Roster

BARC is excited to welcome three outstanding coaches to our clinician roster for this year's camp!

Maurica Powell, Assistant Coach for women's distances at the University of Oregon, sucessfully guided the Ducks to thoe NCAA Division I Cross Country title last November, and has worked with several All-American and NCAA Individual Championship performers during her tenure in Eugene.  Currently, the Oregon team is preparing for strong potential team finishes at the Indoor and Outdoor NCAA Championships.  Originally hailing from the Boston area, Powell was a three-time All-American at Stanford ('02).

Joy Upshaw, Head Coach and Founder/ Director of the Jack Rabbits Track Club, is one of Northern California's most respected track and field athletes and coaches.  After an All-American career in the hurdles at Cal State Hayward (East Bay), she has set several age group American Records, is the current Indoor World Champion in the Long Jump (50-54), and was recently inducted into the Masters Track Hall of Fame.  As a coach, she has worked with kids as young as one up through Olympic level athletes (assisting her sister Grace to a #2 long jump world ranking in 2006).  Joy has been a member of Team USA coaching staffs for several international competitions, including the 2011 Pan-Am Games and the 2013 Five Nations Match in Glasgow, Scotland.

Drew Wartenburg is the Director of Track and Field & Cross Country at UC Davis.  During his time at UC Davis, he has successfully managed the Aggies' transition into one of the west coast's leading programs.  A two-time Big West Cross Country Coach of the Year, Wartenburg led the Aggies to the 2012 Big West Track & Field Championship on the track as well, bolstered by seven individual titles.  Memorably, former Aggie Kim Conley earned a dramatic photo finish third place in the women's 5K to earn a spot on her first Olympic team, after which she backed up the superlative performance with a personal best in the heats of the London Olympic Games under Wartenburg's tutelage.
